Dr. Sun
began his professional career in 1984, designing aircraft electrical systems at
the research and development center of the Xian Aircraft Company in Xian,
China. Beginning in 1991, he spent five years at the Institute for Power Electronics
and Electrical Devices at the University of Paderborn, in Paderborn, Germany.
He served as a research assistant, then as a research associate, while pursuing
a doctoral degree. Following completion of his degree, Sun was a post-doctoral
fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology's School of Electrical and
Computer Engineering from 1996 to 1997. He then worked at the Advanced
Technology Center at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, IA, as a senior engineer
from 1997 to 1999. Dr. Sun was promoted to principal engineer in 2000, and
became a member of the Rensselaer faculty in 2002.
Dr. Sun's
primary research areas include power electronics and electric energy
conversion. More specifically, he is studying high-frequency electric power
conversion, including dc-dc, ac-dc with power factor correction, and dc-ac;
high-frequency magnetic components and integration; power electronic circuits
and systems modeling, analysis, and control; power management for mobile and
portable devices; and power electronics applications in computers,
communications, aerospace, and energy systems.
Liuchen
Chang received B.S.E.E. from Northern Jiaotong University in 1982, M.Sc. from
the China Academy of Railway Sciences in 1984, and Ph. D. from Queen’ University in 1991.
He joined
the faculty of University of New Brunswick in 1992 and now holds a position of
UNB Research Scholar. He is the Principal Investigator of Canadian Wind Energy
Strategic Network (WESNet) where 39 professors from 16 Canadian universities
are developing innovative technical solutions for wind energy systems with the
support of 15 partners. He held the position of NSERC Chair in Environmental
Design Engineering for the Atlantic Canada Region during 2001-2007, and was a
recipient of CanWEA R.J. Templin Award. He is a fellow of Canadian Academy of
Engineering, and registered member of Association of Professional Engineers and
Geoscientists of the Province of New Brunswick. He has published over 190
papers in technical journals and conference proceedings.
